Mission Statement
The purpose of Valves In The Heart Of The Big Apple VIII is to provide a forum for scholarly activities to advance cardiology and cardiac surgery.

Intended Audience
This educational activity is intended for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, scientists, residents and other healthcare professionals interested in translating expanded knowledge into practice for the improvement of patient care and outcomes.

Program Overview
The overall educational objective for the Valves In The Heart Of The Big Apple VIII is to disseminate current and advanced knowledge in the field of valve disease among professionals who are involved in this specialty.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review natural histories of patients with common isolated, pure valvular lesions.
  2. Discuss and review predictors of outcomes with and without surgery for common valve lesions
  3. Present and evaluate currently-accepted criteria for surgical intervention.
  4. Present and evaluate currently-approved criteria for use of percutaneously inserted prostheses and/or valve repair techniques
  5. Discuss evolving concepts of pharmacological therapy in patients with valvular lesions.
  6. Discuss and review current standards for echocardiographic evaluation of valvular diseases, including technical problems and their solutions.
